anyway i just read a soccernet article on beckham going to usa and it says this "The five-year deal will see Beckham earn more than £70,000 a day - more than any player has ever earned."

taking a 2.7 conversion rate, £70,000 translates into S$189,000 a day. in other words, S$2.1875 per second (yes, he earns $2 even whilst sleeping!). or, S$7875 per hour.

whoa. and i thought £70,000 a week contracts were grossly exhorbitant

hello i am here to say that my blog is uh kinda opened. i havent finished the layout though

but but thats not impt the main point is that prom is over (for a week, already) and it was tiring and troublesome to get everyone to take photo tgt but in the end im happy we did! i can hardly believe how far we've come - we were such a disparate bunch in ri...i mean, like, i hardly ever saw taoni with moski or leehu with jian back then, and then we grew even more separate in jc. but i'm still glad we can all come together like that and i hope we have alot alot more ORAs left in us!

moski...the shen kia who left me utterly perplexed by your lightning quick reflexes. i swear, lionel lewis probably wasnt that good at 14 years old. and i still crack up when i see our sec4 team x prom photo hahaha

chiang...you know, until now, you're the only person i know who nominated me for prefect. which in other words could have meant, if not for chiang, i would never be a prefect. mind-boggling thought. i still remember how you got me into detention in sec1 ): but i think you've changed alot over the 6 years and im really glad for it (:

yehmin...i remember that we were the two best soccer players in 4N! and we beat 4M even though jian and leehao and shua were all in there! and i remember how when we played soccer in pri sch u always took the throw-in and just threw it straight at the goalie, and a defender will try and head it away and score an own goal instead...it worked strangely frequently. and i remember going to your place to play after school, and how i'll always be the only polite boy to your grandma, and she decided she liked me so much she had to come to my house and preach to my parents =\ and thankssss for all the lunches and what nots when we were studying in rj. i think u still owe me $3 for a chicken rice though but aiya nvm lah cannot rmb also

benny...u know my oldest memory of you was in sec1 when you were wrestling with someone and u lost your balance and hit the back of your head against the chalkboard ledge and u cried (i think). now benny is strong and macho and wont cry! haha. and uhhh i remember all the soccer during saturdays when i was ponning red cross. and how u were a naughty little boy looking at ms tang's ahem and proudly telling me (i swear, i didnt want to know). and all the long walks from moelc to j8 with u and barj! and you must be the lousiest person i ever know how do u grow shorter than pong lah wth

jian...uhh all i remember from pri sch was that you were in that imba 4M class which we beat at soccer anyway *yawns* and that your hair was very long, and in sec1 u were the coolio who had the m100 palm, the first pda in our gep batch! then ngiap got his m105 and then you had the cassiopeia and dunno what i cant rmb anymore haha but ur pdas were always a relief in class. and j cho's love for you in sec4 and yepyeps haha. and it has been fun sitting next to you in tutorials over the past 2 years. and u owe me a dinner for that picture with ahem haha

huanna...i miss boarding! it was fun boarding with u n pong, and going for floating classroom together too! u two were the first people i confided in you know! and then we grew apart because u were always with the 2L koksters but then in sec4 we all had fun sitting at the right side of the class with zhunwei, hulin, teck and ah yuan! those were great times! and then we didnt talk at the end of sec4 (istillcantrememberwhy) but then hurray everything was fine again and boom we were together in vball again! oh, and it's been fun abusing your taste for girls (michelle branch, anyone?) nearly as bad as jian's leh, and that's saying something.

leehu...my best pal in sec2! i remember going to your house for some toy project haha. and huanna n pong told you about ____ and you just had to tell her and after that i became close to you! and i remember how when we played soccer my passes would always pick you out! those were the days huh. and then u started playing warcraft but i didnt and we drifted but hey im still proud i can say i know rj's dance king lehhh

MOE adjusts timings of GCE O and A level papers on 16th and 17th Nov

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board has made adjustments to the timing of some examination papers for the GCE O and A levels on the 16th and 17th of this month.

This is in view of possible travel delays due to traffic arrangements to facilitate US President George Bush's visit to Singapore.

The move is to ensure the candidates reach their exam centres on time.

On 16th November, time adjustments have been made to the O level Additional Mathematics and A Level Geography papers, while on 17th November, there are time adjustments to the O Level Food and Nutrition and Principles of Accounts papers and the A level Further Mathematics and Divinity papers. - CNA /dt

The changes in timings dont affect any of us i think, except yehmin who takes f maths and the f maths paper is shifted one hour later to 9 am instead of 8 am...i think its quite a funny reason to shift the timings though...does cambridge really send over their papers only a few hours before it starts? anyway i was so sad when i found out smth from my parents..

my granddad had an option to buy a property in serangoon gardens, somewhere near chomp chomp last time long long ago. it wld have cost about 30k or smth? and they opted to buy this 3-room flat and lived there ever since. IMAGINE!! i could have been growing up with a GARDEN! with STAIRCASES!! with a compound for me to run around and be the innocent little kid i was!!! and its like near chompchomp!!! wth!!

andd, whats more, my parents could have bought a mansionette across the street when they registered for a hdb flat. but NO! they chose this four-roomer instead! no gardens but i could at least have a STAIRCASE!!! how cool is that la!? so much bigger and nicer lor. and the property value would be so much better also..

haiz is my family cursed to always make stupidstupidSTUPID property decisions?!

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- A rampant rhinoceros gave a group of visitors a glimpse of nature in the raw at a British safari park when he tried to have sex with their car.

Sharka, a two-ton white rhino, got amorous with Dave Alsop's car when he stopped with three friends to take pictures of the animal mating with his partner Trixie at the West Midland Safari Park.

The 12-year-old rhino tried to mount the Renault Laguna from the side, denting the doors and ripping off the wing mirrors before Dave drove away with a puffing Sharka in pursuit.

"He was a big boy and obviously aroused," Alsop told the Sun newspaper on Thursday.

"He sidled up against us. The next thing I know he's banging away at the car and it's rocking like hell."

A spokeswoman for the park, which says "rhinos are not particularly intelligent animals" on its Web site, said Sharka was a hit with the female rhinos and had fathered two calves in the last five years.

"He's got a bit of a reputation this lad and he was obviously at it again," she added.

i took up one of the booklets in the folder that they gave out after the nsmedical and read it. its the guidebook for bmt or smth liddat...

i decided. i really cant wait to go into army :)

think it will be damn fun living the army life. then got all your army buddies and doing cool stuff like shooting m16/sar21 etc.. wah how cool. pay is not fantastic, but cant help it anw.

in army, your life you donnid to have girl-worries. not tt im bi/homo. but it'll be almost like ri liddat, life would be much less complicated

in army, you get how uber fit. cos you cant help it. so you go in in whatever condition, come out sure better. unless you suay suay lose one leg to landmine or smth.

hello im back and i wanted to type a post of epic length but i figured most people would die reading it so im just going to blog on my thoughts and some reflections. if you still want to read about what we did and on technical stuff like on the hotel industry and so on you can read about it here

the trip was really really an eye-opener, especially las vegas, and honestly, i wouldnt mind paying more than $3k for that alone. i initially was rather apprehensive about the trip and didnt even seriously consider it because i was thinking about how i should be studying now because cts are really impt at this point of time, but when i just casually mentioned it to my parents and my bro they were insistent i should go, so i just found it weird they wanted me to go more than i myself wanted to. but now i don't regret it, and i can see their point of view.

the ppl were really fun, i really died laughing with engswen and shih haur and daozhe. then got to meet ppl whom ive seen before but nv talked to like huiqing n hazel and even j2s ive never even seen before, like sue-faye. but well the trip was really expensive and i didnt intend to pay all that money to go there as a tourist so i'd say i wasnt a whole bundle of joy and fun and laughter cos i wanted to go there and really open my eyes and just learn and study and listen to what bob the tourguide had to say, but nonetheless i still had enough fun with the ppl there anyway and i think my abs are stronger now thanks to all that laughing over sbgl and mf and sbkb and sbl ahhaha. thanks to all who made the trip alot more enjoyable! the american ppl on the other hand are really nice and humorous and good at making small talk but they are really slow so it was quite kancheong when they talked and did things slowly when i was in a rush to hurry off to other ppl. but service was good, so i cant complain. tradeoff im willing to make.

visits to the universities were kinda mixed feelings i guess. caltech wasn't impressive, ucla was better than i expected it to be, but well, its a party school, so there. being my dream school i felt before the trip that 1hour plus was too short for stanford, but in the end, there really wasnt that many things to see. a university's appeal because of its looks can only last so long, what ultimately attracts you would be its atmosphere and its credibility rather than its layout and architectures (although of course good architecture and layout do increase its appeal). stanford didn't quite make such a huge impression on me, it was nice and rustic and pretty but i didn't have any sense of excitement that something big's waiting to happen, and i generally love it when i have that feeling, so yea stanford's kinda dull. berkeley felt more alive and awakened and just cheery and sunny. i heard it's a more cutthroat environment and not as laidback as stanford since it has a considerably higher proportion of asian students, but i couldnt verify that because it was summer vacation for most students already. generally in some ways i felt more alive in berkeley and preferred it slightly to stanford, but it doesnt look as nice as stanford or feel as warm and laidback. with the hectic lifestyle of a college student, who knows? maybe the relaxed tone is exactly what i need. in short, stanford didn't take my breath away, partly because i havent been around the whole campus too, but it definitely isnt a place i would mind being at, and i sure can picture myself having a great time there, if i somehow do manage to get in.

the technical visits were all pretty alright. the mgm one was fantastic, i think it was a really good session and some really good questions were raised and answered, and i think i really got to learn alot just sitting there listening and questioning. being brought around the bellagio and behind the scenes is also something memorable because not everyone gets to see it. i was particularly impressed with the staff welfare at the bellagio. its actually pretty much alike with huge american corporations, and its something that singapore companies cannot touch. all the free training and education and the way they actually want to go out and genuinely improve the standard of living of their staff to raise their productivity, and because of a genuine concern for fellow human beings, it's just wonderful and somewhat noble. americans foster a real working environment, whereas what i see in asia is that companies just try and squeeze out every last bit of productivity out of overworked, overstressed slaves of the corporations. that's why i wanna be there in the states and work there one day, where i can further myself, where i feel like a real integral cog of a great big machine, where i'll wake up everyday with a smile on my face, excited to go to work because i'm happy doing my job. in singapore, most people just dread working...sadness...

the other technical visits were okay...idealab is interesting, the idea of an incubator. it was something that my bro's professor was looking into doing so it wasnt that foreign a concept to me. somewhat nice to know that we've been to this company that may be at the forefront of many new bright ideas and innovations that may one day change the world and how we work. ida singtel and nus were all, well, normal, because frankly i aint that interested in singaporeans even though they're working there. i dont think we did justice to panache by just listening to its founder talk why we ate breakfast, because i think what she's got going is really quite something, living out the american dream, pursuing a passion and not being afraid to take the plunge in a foreign country when she realised she was getting too big for her shoes and wanted a new challenge. it'd have been so easy to just rest on her laurels and continue with her well-paying job but she decided to go it alone, and that kind of adventurous spirit is really commendable coming from a singaporean. but really, i dont suppose its that uncommon when youre in the states.

silicon valley is well,not very special. its just a place with alot of buildings and alot of them happen to be headquarters of mncs. intel and nasa were normal tours and visits for your typical visitor so there wasnt a behind the scenes thing or anything so it was just going through the motions and all. i think the whole beauty of silicon valley isnt that its a special place with nice landmarks for photography but rather a place brimming with ideas and possiblities. so i didnt particularly enjoy going to nasa or nus or intel. sure, intel started with a typical silicon valley entrepeneur's idea, but that was in the past. i'd sure have loved to actually know what kind of things people in silicon valley are actually thinking about or brewing over right now, to actually feel that electrifying burst of creativity and innovation that's made the place so special. and i do know too that it's a pretty much impossible request. its just that i didnt feel our visits captured the very soul and spirit of silicon valley.

shopping is kinda overhyped. well i don't see the point of shopping that much, but well it is true that the factory outlets do have quite some cheap yet good stuff, and hey, we're going with singaporean girls! shopping is a national pasttime. im generally satisfied that i got what i watned over there though, coupla shirts and jeans and an americal football and a vick jersey <3

entertainment stuff was alright. i seriously didnt wanna go universal studios at first because i didnt wanna pay big money to go see some disneyland kinda thing, but it wasnt disneyland. the rides and all initially confirmed my fears, it was just like a huge carnival or funfair sort of thing. but once we got to the special effects show and the studio tour, i felt it was worth it, to be actually there where the hollywood films and tv shows that are such a staple of our lives today are actually being shot, and how. i found it quite cute to see wisteria lane where desperate housewives was shot. it was like seeing a little neighbourhood in the middle of nowhere, definitely interesting.

hollywood boulevard and all was okay. saw the walk of fame and the handprints n footprints and all but didnt see any celebrity or what so it's just like that, been there done that and thats all there is to it. its the same with the golden gate bridge and fisherman's wharf actually. all these tourist attractions, i dont particularly like them because its just a building or a street which is famous because everyone says so and there are tonnes of photos taken at the place. but these attractions dont improve the quality of your life if you've been there, these places dont make you learn anything or feel anything. okay, maybe the great wall of china made me marvel at the pains and labours taken to construct the thing, but apart from that? the eiffel tower, l'arc de triomphe, the golden gate bridge, the big ben, they're just buildings that everyone marvels at, but i dont suppose im steeped enough into their culture or history to appreciate them. i guess u could say that i just dont absolutely love visiting destinations like that, i'd rather see things that actually do relate to our daily lives, not gargantuan monuments that make our lives prettier but don't actually ameliorate our well-being directly.

i think the whole highlight of the trip was las vegas. all the hotels, the casinos, it was amazing, and i was just walking along telling myself, this is it, this is the usa, and im freaking living it and walking along here, right where i want to be. the structures are beautiful, and the scale of everything is crazy, and walking through bellagio was mad because the casino and the jackpot machines just stretch on forever. and you see all the attention to detail, the money that goes into making it a beautiful place, it was sickening. it's obscene to see a chocolate fountain/pool with all the frothy creamy sweet liquid flowing around lazily for the viewing pleasure of visitors, when there are billions of people in africa who can't even get one decent meal, let alone a slab of chocolate. it's obscene to see all the people blowing their money on jackpot machines and the machines reading up to hundred thousand dollars, or the people who bet thousands of dollars each time, when that money could lift countless people out of dire straits and abject poverty. it's obscene that all these billions of dollars go into monumental hotels and resorts and into hiring the top chefs in the world when the poor don't even have a roof over their head or a tasteless meal to go into their stomachs. it's obscene, the opulence and affluence and those who flaunt it, while out in the streets homeless people lurk, their motions stiff and rigid from the cold weather and the dirt and grime on their back. it's just plain obscene, the rich-poor divide, it's an injustice that i find mammoth and impossible to understand all at once. it's one of my goals in life to do something about the rich-poor gap, and i think that being to vegas , seeing the zenith of affluence and luxury and lavish spending, it gives me an inkling of the scale of the problem, it makes me see one end of the spectrum to compare with the other. and boy, it's just something thats hard to grasp and comprehend, that two people who are born so biologically and physically similar could end up with such impossibly different states. and this is what i found most mind-blowing on the whole trip, the incredible wealth in vegas, more than i could imagine, and the unfathomable heaven-earth difference with the abject poor. there are so many things on the trip that i paid so much to see but which i would forget anyway - the feelings i have while crossing the golden gate bridge, the sights and sounds of san francisco, the bustle of los angeles, the movie sets in los angeles. but this i will not forget, the sheer horror and wonderment and disgust and amazement and shock and thrill i had in seeing vegas. this is something that i believe i will take to my grave, it will be something that will always be in the back of my mind, reminding me of a mission in life, and the sheer size of this undertaking.

las vegas - where everybody is somebody, where dreams become a reality, and where everyone else is forgotten.

flying off to US of A tmr afternoon...going to visit quite a few unis like berkeley, ucla, stanford and caltech...going hollywood and las vegas and silicon valley and federal bank reserve as well..exciting! haha.

played in u19 youth cup today...we lost to jurong csc, the defending champions. but i think we played well lah...at least it was one of my better games unlike that disaster against mj ): owell. that's probably my last ever competitive indoor vball game, at least i ended it on a rather personal high.

can't wait for 17 june...even though my legs are threatening to kill me. heard a loud crack in my foot and my knee was sore from just walking 1 day after my first u19 game...im ageing...anyway once 17 june passes i shall start my 3 mths hiatus from all sports to properly recover my knees...pls try not to tempt me with sports during that time...hope that i can recover and have no lasting injury and problems so that next time we can play as team x again! but that'd be many many years down the road...wonder if we'll all still be in sg...

okay thats it for now maybe i'll post again after my trip...and i'll see if i can get anything for all u ppl on the 17th...

Young Boys Wankdorf erection relief

BERN, Switzerland, July 31 (Reuters) - The supporters of Young Boys Bern have not had too much to celebrate in the 19 years since their team last won the Swiss league title.
Long since eclipsed by the likes of FC Basel and Grasshoppers Zurich, the club from the Swiss capital has even got a reputation for enjoying its status as a perennial loser.

But this weekend Young Boys sought to shake off their old image by officially opening the 32,000 Stade de Suisse Wankdorf stadium -- which cost 350 million Swiss francs ($271.3 million) -- with an uncharacteristically flashy homecoming party.

'I'm extremely happy, because I'm convinced this is the stadium from which Young Boys can finally launch themselves back into sporting success,' Swiss president, and Bern native, Samuel Schmid told spectators just before Saturday's show got underway.

Looking on as acrobats, musicians and dancers took to the pitch, the stadium's private investors gladly shared Schmid's enthusiasm while insisting the financial viability of the overall complex does not depend solely on the team's success.

'We have learned a lot from the multifunctional stadium at FC Basel,' stadium board president Benno Oertig told Reuters.

'When you look at the total investment, it's clear that we had to have other sources of income than just the football, which is why we have a supermarket, shops, offices and even a school included in the complex.'

'But of course the performance of the football club will have an important knock-on effect.

'We have calculated for average crowds of around 15,000 per match and are also targeting at least a third place finish in the league this season. That might put some pressure on the club, but you need pressure if you want to succeed.'

Fortunately for team coach Hans-Peter Zaugg, the club's backers also appreciate the need to invest in players.

Working to a budget of about 8.5 million Swiss francs -- surpassed in Swiss football only by FC Basel's estimated 30 million -- Zaugg made eight pre-season signings.

The most notable coup was convincing Switzerland midfielder and former Basel hero Hakan Yakin to join the club.

Having won both their opening away matches to take an early lead at the top of the Swiss standings, Young Boys already look prepared for their season of change.

'The building of the new stadium certainly played a part in my coming here,' Yakin told Reuters on Saturday.

'I'd already seen what a new home can do for a team during my time at Basel -- so now it's up to us players to put in performances that will bring in the supporters.'

Despite the recently appended Stade de Suisse title, the new Wankdorf does not have any official status as a national stadium and will share the staging of international matches with the other new Swiss grounds in Basel and Geneva.

The future hosts for Swiss Cup finals -- previously held exclusively in Bern -- is also still to be decided.

The Bern stadium is, however, already set to stage three group matches at the 2008 European Championships, marking a return to the international stage more than half a century after the old Wankdorf hosted the 1954 World Cup final.

aiyaa i shall blog a teeny weeny bit seeing that everyone is doind their bid to revive this blog. of course cheese was enjoying himself during 'mars and venus' he was soo totally engrossed in wu w*nze.nvm we have another 2 weeks of tt wonderful civics where theres nice air-con and 2 teachers whose combined age must quite probably hit 150. see benny i promised u ill blog n im soo nice ritee..and yup we should go join a soccer comp. one which we can win =) n i promise (to a large extent) ill join n play. unlike the previous extremely unfortunate boon lay thing which was situated like 50 mrt stops away from where i live and was perfectly scheduled at like 8 am in the morning.

oh my oh my.. what is this we hear about chees secretly reading a bootleg copy of the rgs yearbook?? tsky tsky... summore someone went to sign up for 'mars and venus' as a civics elective arh?? and enjoyed it alot summore... let me analyse a few of cheesies' latest movements....

1) signing up for 'mars and venus' for civics elective..
while he claims that he was just joining amos and benny chia.. his real motives are unclear... why join something that he has 'no' interest in since dont know when? or those chees really wishes to find out more about the opposite gender? and learn more about bgrs? last i heard, chees really enjoyed the first civics lesson.... hmmmmm

2) secretly reading a bootleg copy of the rgs yearbook..
hmmm.. since when did chees show an interest in girls?? maybe he is trying to look out for some possible target(s)(???) how many is he interested in?? we can only wait to find out...

3) buying a new computer
while we all thought that his computer was still working.. he claims that it is spoiled.. and now he has just purchased his new much better computer.. isit for the purposes of chatting with girls online??

ehhh i cannot lah fridays jian and i have phy tutorial from 12-whatever time my tutor wants which could be 3 or even 330. sadness. why not wednesday instead cos everyone ends early?

hahahaha carom on friday was so funny berge had this impossible looking shot to win the game and jian betted that berge couldnt make it but he did anyway so jian had to go up and say hi to wilfred. so sweet :)

and errrr i dunno what else to blog about. hope everyone is fine which i presume is true cos i see everyone still alive in sch everyday :) can we take part in some soccer comp or sth someday so that the team x jersey wont rot?

Eh guys eat together on friday at 12 okay? Me and benny ate at ET coffeeshop last friday it was so nostalgic. I realised i have been neglecting dear old watanabe and his gang, not to mention the lovely wanton mee auntie who used to remember that i'll order 3 dollar wanton mee with no veggie. She forgot already on friday =(.

School is so tiring nowadays. Promos are coming so soon, one year is going to pass just like that. So incredibly fast huh. Anyway heard people like taoni got AAAB for commontest which is reallyquite sick but well done nini! The rest of us lets all work hard for promos and not get retained!

I got caprieora (sp?) for my pe elective. argh.. my only consolation is that berge and jia reng are in it too. What did you guys get?

Hello please confirm if you want to come down for the street soccer comp thingy. Its 3rd July at Boon Lay, easily accessible from Lakeside MRT. Its after common test so no worries about mugging.
